THE NOBLE LAUREATES- caring & concerned CITIZENS who be and lead the change.
In a country of almost 1.2 billion Indians a few people have the COURAGE OF CONVICTION and COMPASSION to stand up, speak out and lead the change with an I CAN DO attitude. However while we have many awards for movie stars and other achievers awards launched by tobacco, FMCG and beverage brands as marketing campaigns, we have yet to recognise the REAL LIFE UNSUNG HEROES who believe that it is better to light a candle than curse the darkness by leading change as change dreamers & doers who practice Philanthropy for social justice i.e. not by JUST GIVING but by investing justly but getting involved to understand social issues and trying personally with others to RIGHT every WRONG thus making a difference for the cause. We firmly believe that it is not charity but justice that is wanting in the world and that the few people who dream & do and lead the change.
Karmaveer Puraskaar is the peoples' award instituted by iCONGO – Confederation of NGOs- and KHMEMKA FOUNDATION with all other sectors and partners like TISS, BCCI, CMS, NECCI, NASSCOM FOUNDATION, PHDCCI, FISME, RAI, AIESEC, Open Space NDTV, Outlook, Asian Age, Business World, Dataquest, Big FM, Tehelka and various other esteemed sectors and organisations was announced and at the curtain raiser event on 10 th March 2007, wherein we felicitated some well and little known citizen change dreamers & doers dubbed as ' THE NOBLE LAUREATES'
These awards are for INDIVIDUAL CITIZENS from the various sectors for Excellence and best practices in promoting social justice & action in their sector/ environment by being and leading the change . The idea is to nominate and select citizens in the corporate, government, media, SME, students & other sectors who have contributed to social justice & action by going beyond BUSINESS as USUAL and thus been the change that they want to see in the world. The idea is to promote thought processes for good governance and social responsibility amongst citizens in Government, Businesses, NGOs, Small & Medium Enterprises, School/ Universities and harness the power of ONE as democratic citizens. It is a beginning for building people movements and knowing that We the people as individuals comprise We the power and that together as ONE we can RIGHT every WRONG.
Acknowledging that the necessary skills, resources and legitimacy for tackling these challenges are dispersed between different levels of various sectors, the Conclave would address the need for new models of constructive dialogue, consultation and alliances amongst the sectors by building collective people movements. This would be a forum to learn from pioneers across sectors about how we can all be change leaders and contribute to the process of leading change and to assist in helping people start their journey to create a successful, measurable and sustainable social impact. |
